Artist's Comments

Tiny baby damselfly. Not staged or Photoshopped. To give you an idea of his size, he's on a blade of lawn grass.

5/17/09 Update:
Oh my goodness, I'm in shock! I got a DD! Thank you so much to WaitingForTheWorms :iconwaitingfortheworms: for suggesting it (how sweet of you to take the time to do that) and to dandelgrosso :icondandelgrosso: for featuring it.

As I've told a few deviants, I really do like this one myself, but you know how it is when you download your photos and you wonder, should I upload this to dA? I'm really glad I did!

Also, now I feel a little bad that I've complained about the DD system lately! What can I say? I'm overjoyed.

Less than a year ago the only person who'd seen any of my photography was my sister and she kept telling me she loved it. I was positive she was just being nice. Because of dA, I can see I've improved. I'm self-taught and I intend to continue to learn from everyone at dA. I especially want to thank vacio-oscuro :iconvacio-oscuro:. She's always been there for me, and everyone, with help and encouragment.

First of all let me say, what a beautiful shot! The colours are extraordinary and so are the details, as few as there are.

The depth of field does a beautiful job of enhancing the photograph - giving the foreground the extra sharpness it needs to pop out and really impress the viewers.

However one little thing bothers me - the image is unnecessarily wide. Now, I don't know if you're one of those photographers who don't like to touch anything that comes out of the camera (I call them naturalists) or otherwise, but I strongly feel that cropping this image a bit would have given it more impact. The wide background is somewhat distracting from the focal point, in this case the dragonfly.

Otherwise, you've done a beautiful job :aww:

It's tiny and there was a breeze. I just walked around getting different angles, focusing on its eyes. The blur is probably because of the breeze. I have photos that concentrate more on what the damselfly actually looks like, showing it's eyes and hair and everything in better detail, but I liked the feeling and colors in this particular photo.

I responded to you but I don't think I clicked on your "reply" so you may not get my answer unless you go back to the damselfly photo. Sorry!
